Paramedic research, 3 November 2026
A quiet clinical day, but a Swiss quality-control study found prehospital stroke triage missed 21% of reperfusion candidates and overtriaged 63% — a second expert step on the phone cut both. An Australian ED cohort also found reported loss of consciousness didn't predict post-traumatic amnesia after mild head injury.

Prehospital stroke triage: high under- and overtriage rates
A Swiss single-centre quality-control study of a prehospital stroke triage pathway found EMS undertriaged 21% and overtriaged 63% of acute reperfusion candidates, with both rates falling when a coordinated medical team (including a neurologist) was phone-consulted.

Reported LOC didn't flag post-traumatic amnesia in ED
An Australian retrospective cohort of 6,259 adults tested with the Abbreviated Westmead PTA Scale after head injury found 91.8% passed, with post-traumatic amnesia associated with initial GCS 13–14 but not with reported loss of consciousness.

Predicting ground vs helicopter EMS travel times
A modelling study validated open-source routing and historical-data methods for predicting ground and helicopter EMS travel times, achieving R² of 0.79 for ground drive time to scene but only 0.38 for helicopter time to hospital.

Mapping anti-violence measures for ambulance personnel
An Irish scoping-review protocol will map measures against verbal and physical violence toward ambulance personnel — reported by 57–93% of prehospital responders in a career — across five safety-science and human-factors frameworks.
