About
About Paramedic Papers
A free, daily scan of new paramedic and prehospital research, summarised in plain English for working clinicians, with notes on how each paper fits Australian practice.
Who runs it
Paramedic Papers is a non-commercial project run by Oscar Purtell, an Australian paramedic. There's no advertising and no sponsorship, and nothing on the site is paid placement.
How papers are found and summarised
- Each morning, newly published papers in prehospital, emergency and resuscitation journals are found through Crossref and PubMed.
- Papers are screened for relevance to paramedic practice. Each kept paper gets a short summary, the study design and size, the main finding, the key caveat, and a note on what it means for Australian ambulance services.
- Summaries are written with the help of AI from each paper's published abstract, not the full text. Every summary links to the original paper (DOI and PubMed) so you can read it yourself.
- The daily podcast is a short audio roundup of the same papers, voiced with text-to-speech.
Not clinical advice. Summaries can miss nuance or contain errors, and a single study rarely changes practice. Always follow your service's clinical practice guidelines, and check the original paper before relying on a finding.
