Paramedic Papers is a free, non-commercial project run by one Australian paramedic. This page explains, in plain English, what the site stores about you, where it's kept, and how to get it back or delete it. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone, and there's no advertising.
Reading the site and podcast
- No account is needed. Papers you save and your playback speed are kept in your own browser (local storage) and never sent to us, unless you sign in: then your saved papers are also kept with your account (below).
- Fonts are served from this site, not Google Fonts. Episode audio comes from
audio.paramedicpapers.com, which is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, it sees your IP address when your browser fetches a file. - Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, so I can see roughly how many people use the site, which pages, from which countries and on what kind of device. It sets no cookies, doesn't track you across sites and doesn't record who you are.
- To see whether people come back, the site also keeps a random ID in your browser's local storage (not a cookie). With it, the site's own server counts which days the ID was seen, which pages and papers were opened, episodes played, and when a CPD entry, quiz or saved paper is completed. Only the kind of action is recorded, never what you write. The ID isn't linked to your name, email or account, isn't shared with anyone, and is kept for about 13 months. Signed-in use is counted the same way, against a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of your account ID, so the usage counts don't hold your account ID; deleting your account deletes them.
- This counting is off if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. You can also turn it off here: (needs JavaScript)
- Podcast downloads from the feed go through OP3 (op3.dev), an open, non-profit podcast download counter, before reaching the audio file. It sees your IP address and podcast app, like the audio host does, and publishes only totals.
- The list of other podcasts you can log as CPD comes from each podcast's public feed. We serve the episode details and artwork from this site, so browsing the list sends nothing to the podcast hosts.
The PD brief email
- When you sign up we store your email address, the name you give (if any), and when you signed up. Cloudflare sends you a verification email, and the brief is sent through Cloudflare's email service.
- Every issue has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes your address from the mailing list.
CPD tracking (when you sign in)
To keep a CPD record you sign in with Google or Microsoft. We only ask them for your name, email address and an account ID. We never see your password and get no access to your mail, files or contacts.
What's stored:
- Your name, email address and sign-in provider ID.
- Your CPD entries, learning goals and reflections, and your hours targets.
- Your quiz attempts and scores.
- The papers you save, so they follow you to your other devices and aren't lost if your browser's storage is cleared. Signing out leaves them in that browser too.
- For podcast episodes you log: the podcast's name, the episode title, its release date and a link to its page, alongside your other CPD data.
- A sign-in session cookie. It's the only cookie the site sets.
- Which days you used the site, counted against a one-way hash of your account ID (see "Reading the site" above).
It's stored in a Cloudflare D1 database in the Oceania region, with nightly backups in Cloudflare R2 storage. Cloudflare also keeps short-lived request logs for a few days so errors can be diagnosed.
Your record, your responsibility
- The Paramedicine Board of Australia can audit your CPD, and you are responsible for keeping your own records. Export your portfolio at the end of each registration year (30 November) and keep it for 5 years. Don't rely on this site as your only copy.
- You can download all your data (CSV, a printable portfolio, or the full JSON) at any time from the Account page.
- Your CPD data is kept until you delete it. Deleting your account from the Account page removes your entries, goals, reflections and quiz attempts straight away. Backup copies age out within 30 days.
