Tocilizumab no effect on NGAL after OHCA
Effects of tocilizumab on neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, and its prognostic value
Resuscitation Plus · Added 27 July 2026
Tocilizumab did not affect NGAL in comatose survivors of OHCA.
- Study type
- RCT
- Design
- Substudy of the IMICA randomised controlled trial
- Participants
- 80 comatose adult OHCA survivors
- Main finding
- NGAL levels 0-72 h did not differ between tocilizumab and placebo. Admission NGAL predicted cRRT need (AUROC 0.76) and 180-day death (AUROC 0.75; significantly better than creatinine, AUROC 0.54).
- Caveat
- Small substudy sample and null secondary biomarker endpoints limit precision and generalisability.
- Bottom line
- Hypothesis-generating
Learning goal
